About Government Regulations
There are good government regulations and bad government regulations, and regulations which are moot, that is, difficult or impossible to evaluate this way. Regulations intended to protect the health of people may be good or bad or moot. Regulations intended to limit or forbid the production of certain products and services, for example by large corporations, may be good or bad or moot. Being for or against having any government regulations of these kinds is therefore not enough. One should try one’s best to evaluate the valuations. In the case of moot regulations, one should try one’s best to evaluate the risks of holding onto or giving up the regulations. However, practically no one person is in a position to do this systematically or scientifically with all government regulations of these kinds, or even with more than a very few. There are organizations whose members collectively investigate the value of one or a few kinds of regulations. This seems to be the best that can be done. In any case, it is fatuous to talk about removing all or most government regulations.
